Roastr Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026
Roastr ("the app") is made by @joshipraneel on GitHub. It roasts you into putting your phone down. This policy explains what the app handles and why. The short version: everything stays on your phone. Roastr has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and does not connect to the internet.
What the app uses, and why
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| The name you type in | So roasts can call you by it | Stays on your phone |
| Your settings (language, roast level, limits, alarm time) | To run the app the way you set it | Stays on your phone |
| App usage time for YouTube and Instagram (only with Usage Access, which you turn on) | To count today's minutes against your limit | Only a daily total is kept, on your phone |
| Reel and Short swipes in YouTube and Instagram (only if you turn on reel counting through Accessibility) | To count swipes against your limit and send you to the home screen when you pass it | Only a daily count is kept, on your phone |
| Voice recordings (only if you record your own roasts) | To play your roasts back to you | Stays on your phone and is excluded from backups |
| Step counter (only for the "30 steps" wake-up mission) | To check you got out of bed | Used live, not stored |
| Daily stats (minutes, reels, busts, whether you finished the wake-up mission) | For your score, streak, shame card and weekly summary | Stays on your phone; the last 35 days are kept |
Accessibility service
Reel counting is optional and off by default. If you turn it on, Roastr's Accessibility service only receives events from YouTube and Instagram. It uses the ID of the screen that is showing to tell when you swipe to the next reel. It does not read what you watch, type or message, and it does not collect or share any of it. When you pass your limit it presses Back and Home to send you out of the app. You can turn it off any time in your phone's Accessibility settings, or use "Count minutes" instead, which does not need Accessibility.
Sharing
Roastr does not send any data to the developer or to anyone else. The only time anything leaves the app is when you tap "Share" on a shame card: the card image goes to the app you pick, like any other share.
Backups
If Android backup is on for your phone, your settings and daily stats may be included in your own Google backup, as with any app. Voice recordings are never included.
Deleting your data
Uninstall Roastr, or go to Settings > Apps > Roastr > Storage > Clear data. That removes everything. Since nothing is sent to us, there is nothing else to delete.
Age
Roastr is for adults (18+). Roasts include strong language, and the strongest level asks you to confirm you are 18 or older.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
